The Firm
The origins of the firm go back to 1995 when Mark Kirkbride started the practice to provide excellent
quality tax advice of a level not often available outside large firms. The practice is based in the
Cotswold town of Chipping Campden.
The ethos of the practice is to combine the quality service one would expect from a city firm with the
value for money and personal service normally associated with a smaller practice.
We do not pretend to be a one-
for a small firm to try and compete on this basis. Legislative requirements are becoming increasingly
more onerous and it is, in our view, virtually impossible for a general practitioner to keep abreast of all
the necessary knowledge without substantial support.
Therefore we have established the practice with a particular emphasis on taxation matters. Our
expertise is derived from the founder’s 30 years experience in dealing with the tax affairs of businesses
and individuals, ranging from straightforward tax return completion work to the most complex of
business transactions and trust work. The practice has particular expertise in the complex capital gains
and inheritance tax issues of the agricultural sector.
Although we do provide a straightforward tax return completion service our aim is to take on clients who
wish us to go beyond the figures on the form and to provide proactive tax planning advice tailored to
meet their own and their family’s circumstances.
In fact we do not see us ourselves as being in competition with other firms of accountants, but instead as
providing an ancillary service to help with unusual or one off transactions. An increasing proportion of
our work is derived from referrals from other firms of accountants or solicitors who ask us to look at
specific cases where tax advice beyond that normally provided by a general practitioner is required.
